The Brief
Discovering Detroit was built as the editorial front door to Bespoke Life, a Detroit luxury concierge service. Rather than market the concierge offering directly, the idea was to earn an audience first: a magazine-style platform publishing the history of Detroit through the lens of high-end living, written by Danielle Harris, that would introduce readers to the city's character and, in time, to the service built around it.
That meant Discovering Detroit needed to stand on its own as a publication, not read as an ad. It had to feel like something you'd want to read, with a concierge brand waiting quietly behind it.
The Approach
I grounded the identity in Detroit's Art Deco heritage, the vocabulary of the Guardian and Fisher buildings, because it gave the platform a way to signal luxury that belonged to the city rather than borrowing from anywhere else. Art deco is Detroit's own language of ambition and elegance, and it let the brand feel local and elevated all at once.
The system runs on a five-color palette: Verdant Slate and Deep River-Pine for depth, Detroit Cream as the reading ground, Aged Tobacco for warmth, and Detroit Gold as the single editorial accent. Gold replaced an earlier brick tone because the brand needed one confident luxury signal rather than a warmer, softer one, and gold is the color Detroit's Deco interiors already use to mean exactly that. Cormorant Garamond carries the display and editorial voice; DM Sans handles the structure and interface.

The System
The identity is documented in full: a brand guide covering palette, type, and usage, and a marketing strategy laying out how the platform builds and holds an audience. The design logic is editorial first. The green ground leads, cream carries the reading, and gold appears once per composition as punctuation rather than decoration. This allows the whole thing to read like a publication with a point of view rather than a brand shouting.
The website launched as a landing page concept and was shelved alongside Bespoke Life. The identity and editorial system were delivered complete.
